When to Check Wheel Alignment

We recommend to inspect wheel alignment every year or for every 10,000km.
An inspection is required:
  • After a car accident.
  • After tire replacement.
  • when there is uneven wear on a shoulder.
  • when the steering wheel is unstable and/or vibrating
  • when riding is uncomfortable or fuel efficiency gets worse

Toe

Definition of Tod is the angle created by tire direction and vehicle direction when viewed from the upper. If the tire’s front is inward, it’s called Toe-in; if outward, called Toe-out. Too much toe-out usually causes fast wear on tire’s inner surface of tread. And Too much toe-in causes fast wear on outer surface of tread in reverse. Both cases results in worse riding comfort and less fuel efficiency.

Camber

Definition of Camber is the angle created by steering axis and vertical line to the ground when viewed from the front or rear. If the top of the tire is farther out than the bottom (that is, away from the axle), it is called positive camber; if the bottom of the tire is farther out than the top, it is called negative camber; if the tire stands perfectly vertical, it is called neutral camber.

With the development of suspension and vehicle technology, most vehicles today have negative camber, which increases outer tire’s contact area and provides stable cornering performance.

Continental Sport Contact 5P – Tyre of the Year

Continental declared ‘Czech-mate’ in this year’s MOTOR Tyre Test stealing the crown as Australia’s best high performance tyre.

 
 

As revealed in MOTOR’s June issue on-sale tomorrow, the Czech Republic-made ContiSportContact 5P pipped seven other tyres after a gruelling regimen of wet and dry tests at Sydney Motorsport Park and Sydney Dragway.

V8 Supercar driver Warren Luff wrung each tyre’s neck in disciplines of dry braking, dry slalom, a dry figure eight course, wet motorkhana and wet braking.

Mercedes provided the hardware for this year’s test, an A45 AMG with 235/35R19 rubber, while JAX Tyres played pit crew as efficiently as ever.

Michelin fronted-up with its Pilot Sport Cup 2, standard fitment on cars like the 458 Speciale and 911 GT3, while Toyo had a tilt with its Proxes T1 Sport.

Bridgestone arrived with its RE050A, Dunlop the Direzza DZ102, Falken the Azenis FK453 and Goodyear the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2. Meanwhile Winrun went into bat in the budget stakes with its underdog R330.

The Michelin dominated the dry running but couldn’t hold off the storming Continental in the wet, the ContiSportContact 5P coming away with the outright win.
